What is an interlinear book?
An interlinear book presents the story in your target language, with a translation directly aligned for each word or phrase in each sentence. It lets you read fluently while naturally learning vocabulary, grammar, and sentence structure — without stopping to look things up.
Is this the same as a side-by-side translation?
No — side-by-side translations split your attention and don't follow the story smoothly. Interlinear books keep everything on one line of sight: the target language sentence, followed immediately by the gloss. No flipping, no comparing — just reading.
Is each word translated literally?
Not always. Where it's clearer, we translate multiple words together as a phrase. For example, the Finnish "sen sijaan" is translated as "instead" rather than word-by-word. The goal is a gloss that reads naturally while staying as close to the original as possible.
Do I need prior experience in the language?
Not much. If you know the alphabet and a few basics, you'll be fine. Our glosses are designed to guide you without overwhelming you — so even beginners can follow along and start learning from day one.
Will I actually learn the language?
Yes — when you read meaningful content in context, your brain begins to absorb patterns, grammar, and vocabulary naturally. People have always learned languages fastest through immersion. Our books give you that immersion, with the support to make it work.
